Industrial Sector Challenges and Opportunities Discussed within the ICAT Georgia Project

On September 10, a meeting of the Industrial Sector Working Group was held within the framework of the “ICAT Georgia” project, bringing together stakeholders to discuss key issues related to the development of Georgia’s industrial sector and climate action.

The meeting focused on four key areas:

High-tech projects and programmes - opportunities to promote the development and adoption of high-tech solutions in the industrial sector were discussed, with a focus on their potential contribution to innovation and sustainable industrial development.

Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) - participants discussed the main challenges and opportunities arising from CBAM and the importance of strengthening the sector’s preparedness for evolving carbon-related requirements and international market conditions.

Energy efficiency regulations - the discussion addressed existing challenges related to energy efficiency requirements, as well as opportunities for industry to improve energy performance and respond effectively to regulatory developments.

Updated Climate Change Strategy and new Action Plan - participants discussed and identified potential activities that could be reflected in the updated Climate Change Strategy and the new Action Plan, with a focus on priorities relevant to the industrial sector.

The working group meeting contributed to the discussion of practical priorities and potential actions for a more competitive, energy-efficient and climate-conscious industrial sector in Georgia.

The meeting was held with the support of the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT), in close cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA), with technical support from the UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre (UNEP-CCC) and the Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus).
