Georgia
REC Caucasus plays a leading role in supporting Georgia’s transition toward environmentally sustainable and climate-resilient development. Its work focuses on strengthening environmental governance, aligning national policies with EU standards, and enhancing the country’s capacity to meet international climate commitments.
In 2024, REC Caucasus supported the preparation of Georgia’s First Biennial Transparency Report and Fifth National Communication to the UNFCCC, improving the country’s climate monitoring, reporting and verification systems. Alongside climate policy, the organisation advanced biodiversity conservation through initiatives such as the restoration of traditional agricultural varieties in Samtskhe–Javakheti and sustainable pasture management.
REC Caucasus also contributes to integrated water resource management, including the development of River Basin Management Plans for the Enguri and Rioni basins, and supports circular economy solutions through waste management reforms, plastic reduction initiatives and improved chemicals management systems.
Through its work in Georgia, REC Caucasus strengthens institutions, supports evidence-based policymaking and promotes sustainable economic opportunities that are closely linked to environmental protection.
