Institutional Capacity Building for Chemical Safety and Security in Georgia

Project Objectives:
Strengthen chemical safety and security legal frameworks and institutional capacities in Georgia in furtherance of national and international weapons of mass destruction (WMD) nonproliferation, counterterrorism, human health, and environmental safety objectives; This effort is crucial in the context of national and international CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear).
Support Government of Georgia efforts to advance chemical security to combat emerging global threats, in particular WMD terrorism.
Project activities:
- Build on previous efforts to improve Georgia’s national legislative framework on chemical safety and security in accordance with EU regulations and standards;
- Enhance Georgia’s laboratory monitoring and control system of chemicals management to ensure chemical safety and security;
- Create a unified electronic register/database (software) of imported, used, and exported hazardous chemicals according to REACH and for implementing CLP regulations and institutional capacity building.
