The Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus

REC Caucasus International Advisory Council has developed a tradition of holding international conferences on critical environmental themes in the Caucasus region. As for today, the REC Caucasus has held six annual international conferences. Their main topics were dedicated to the most crucial problems of the three countries, particularly, to the

water resources management

problems of drought and desertification

sustainable development of mountainous regions of the Caucasus

environmental security

education for sustainable development

environmental, economic and social impacts of global climate change

More than 550 environmental stakeholders (representatives of governmental bodies, NGOs, academic, media, public and international organisations, as well as experts and other RECs from 30 countries participated in the conferences. Parallel to the traditional conferences, the REC Caucasus organises youth conferences for the students of the Caucasus. Besides, special media tours are organised for the environmental media representatives.

The best materials are published in special publications. Moreover, various projects and programs are developed and implemented on the bases of the conference recommendations.
